Join us for "Paths to the Past," when presenter Yulanda Burgess will delve into the practice and importance of Black genealogy research, illuminating how family histories can be traced despite gaps, silences, and systemic barriers in the historical record. Burgess will share research strategies, resources, and real-world insights to help uncover ancestral stories and restore connections across generations. This talk invites participants to see genealogy not just as research, but as an act of remembrance, resilience, and legacy-building.
Yulanda Burgess is a member of the the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865, which was founded on May 30, 1885. Its mission is to perpetuate the memories of those who served in Union Army and Navy during the American Civil War, to honor their loyalty and their unselfish sacrifices to preserve the Union, and to keep alive the history of those who participated in that heroic struggle for the maintenance of our free government. It is a nonprofit organization formed to unite females with direct lineage of honorably discharged Union soldiers and sailors.
