About this Event
The Society for Medieval Archaeology has a fantastic line-up for its conference this year, which is being jointly organised with the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) and is taking place at the British Museum, London, on Saturday 21 September 2024.
On Friday 20th September 2024, there is also an opportunity to join tours of the Medieval galleries in the British Museum. Spaces for this are limited, information on how to sign up will be updated on here soon.
The following speakers and titles have been confirmed.
Keynote lectures will be given by Roberta Gilchrist (University of Reading) on Medieval Ritual Objects in the Landscape: Mapping Meaningful Deposition and Annemarieke Willemsen (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) on Daily Life, Disaster & Discovery: Small Metal Finds from the Drowned Land in the Netherlands.
Other speakers are Alice Blackwell (National Museum Scotland) on Scottish medieval sealing practices: a Treasure Trove dataset, Patrick Gleeson (Queens University Belfast) on Prehistoric Cults and Medieval a Afterlives? Integrating Landscape and Material Culture in the Analysis of Multi-period Places, Dawn Hadley & Julian Richards (University of York) on The Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Landscape of the Viking Great Army, Rory Naismith (University of Cambridge) on Money at Home: Medieval Finds of Coins in their Landscape Context, Chris Scull (Rendlesham Revealed) on Rendlesham, Suffolk: Investigating a Royal Centre of the East Anglian Kingdom, and Robert Webley (University of Reading) on The Century of Conquests: Changing Artefactual Landscapes in Eleventh-century England.
