About this Event

On this walk, we'll explore this lively stretch of College Street known for its nightlife, recreation, and local landmarks, from the West End YMCA to the iconic Matador Club. We'll revel in the area's historic music scene while hearing stories of gathering and change, from its early history and the now-buried Garrison Creek to the Italian, Portuguese, and Latin American immigrants who shaped the neighbourhood.

About the Tour Leader

Claire Jansen-Faught is an educator, academic, and fibre artist. She researched and wrote Heritage Toronto’s State of Heritage Report 2025: From Community Voices to Action. Across her varied work, she likes to investigate the ways that people tend to care for each other and respect one another’s senses of self. She’s also interested in understanding different conceptions of injustice. She loves queer line dancing, three-part harmony, and odd movies. She will begin her doctoral studies in philosophy at the University of Edinburgh in the fall of 2026.
