Party on the Plaza Summer
2026 Concert Series
Every Friday from 6 - 7 PM
Admission is FREE
We’re excited to bring back Party on the Plaza, our summer concert series at PNC Plaza at The Civic. This cozy patio beside Akron Civic Theatre on South Main Street is the perfect spot for live music and Friday night gatherings all season long!
Babies in Black bring their vocal harmonies and arrangements to major pop hits between 1955-1968. With Beth Hiser on upright bass and Rachel Roberts on guitar, their unique duo energy enlivens tunes by the Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Lesley Gore, the Drifters, and many more. They have played together for over ten years at numerous venues nationally and festivals, including the yearly Kent BeatleFest.
Rachel Roberts is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from the underground rock factory of Akron, OH. She has a sultry, folk-rock sound; a mix of Sade, Joni Mitchell, and Pat Benatar. Roberts has four albums; two solo records, and two with her bands Rachel’s Secret Stache and Sexis Sixes. She has toured and played over 300 venues nationally, made a music video in downtown Chicago, and shared stages with Chrissie Hynde, The Black Keys, Greg Kihn, Rusted Root, and Joseph Arthur. Beth Hiser is a music professor and Associate Dean of Music at the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts in Berea, OH. She has her doctorate in music theory and is accomplished on several instruments including the violin, piano, and upright bass. In addition to Babies in Black, Hiser plays with bluegrass band Front Porch. She has performed Afro-pop, country, bluegrass, rock and punk throughout the country.
