This is part 4 of a 5-part Travel Photography series with Sony Artisan of Imagery, Ira block.
In 1978, National Geographic photographer, Ira Block, was sent on an expedition to the North Pole to photograph Japanese explorer Naomi Uemera. The assignment took Ira to the Arctic, a significant departure from his New York City upbringing and started his career as a travel and culture photographer for National Geographic. He traveled to Peru to photograph mummy ruins, to various parts of Italy following the cultivation of olive oil, to Japan documenting Samurai traditions and contributed over 30 international stories to the magazine. In this talk, Ira talks about his work for National Geographic and the logistics, planning and workflow that goes into an assignment. He will also share the incredible stories behind the iconic images taken over his 40-year spanning career.
