Are we prepared for the next disaster? Am I? Are you? This event is for everyone, from all parts of Lismore and surrounds and whether you were here for the flood or not.
A two-part, grassroots community event for learning, sharing and preparing.
🧩 PART 2 - A people’s assembly and afternoon tea.
Come and connect with community, to listen, share and deliberate on this important question:
đź“Ś What are the priority actions to prepare for the next disaster?
Part 1: Info sharing, BBQ and convo’s @ South Lismore Bowlo Thursday 14th November 6 - 8 pm
Part 2: Public Assembly with afternoon tea @ Red Dove Cafe, Saturday 30th November 1 - 4 pm
The goal for this two part event is to support the empowerment of individuals, families, neighbourhoods and the community to prepare now for future disasters. We aim to do this by focusing on our collective agency and the present – what can I/you/we do now?
We will do this by bringing the community together to share information, build connections and practice deliberating on solutions to help each other better prepare for future disasters.
♨️Spread over two events approximately a fortnight apart, the first is a more informal BBQ, with brief presentations from Council (infrastructure and warnings, etc.), Scientist/s (climate breakdown and risk of floods) and Resilient Lismore (3 year strategic plan, community resilience and social cohesion). This will be alongside small, designed conversations/participation to get people thinking and sharing and to provide direction/data for part two.
🧩 Part two will be a People’s Assembly held indoors and facilitated by LPA, where people bring their experiences (and perhaps ideas gathered at and developed since the previous event) to answer the question: What are the priority actions to prepare for the next disaster?
đź“ťThe overarching design will allow participants to consider the question from various perspectives: individual/family/neighbourhood and wider community.
🎯The outcome from the second event will be a set of recommendations that individuals can choose to act upon and that the organisers can publicise to the wider community.
Sign up to the event at Action Network so we can track numbers, you will also join our mailing list to find out what's coming up next!

❓What exactly is the Lismore People’s Assembly?
Taking place on the unceded lands of the Widjabal Wia-bal People of the Bundjalung Nation, The Lismore People’s Assembly is for everyday people to come together, in a constructive and participatory format that supports everyone to share ideas and listen respectfully to each other to deliberate on wicked problems, answer tricky questions and find solutions to the issues that matter.
After a facilitated discussion in small groups, where every voice is heard and we deliberate to come up with ideas and solutions, we then decide collectively what to do next. This assembly will be the third such event held in 2024.
