The second discussion in our Spring Semester, this discussion is titled, Keeping Our Relationship in the Center: When Do We Focus on Appreciation and Not Just Support? It will be hosted by Tara Adams. Tara Adams (she/her) is the parent of three young adults who grew up in a 100% neurospicy household. She has worked with children and their caregivers since she had dial-up Internet, but people say she looks great for her age.https://lasteamlab.com/programs/parenting-in-a-neurospicy-household/
We started a parenting series in the Fall of 2024 to address the particular challenges and rewards of parenting in a household containing neurospicy kids and adults. The series focuses mainly on autism, ADHD, anxiety, and asynchronous giftedness. The goal was to address the fact that most parenting advice assumes neurotypicality and can often have harmful outcomes for both kids and parents who are not.
Thanks to a JJAB grant, talks are free and come with free childcare as well as free catered dinner. Childcare is provided at STEAM Lab where staff has much familiarity with neurospicy kiddos. The talk is held offsite at Mesa Public Library in The Zone (Youth Services). We do request an RSVP to secure appropriate resources.
