Parent + Teen Intro to Woodworking. Build Together at the Collab MakerSpace

Looking for a fun, meaningful way to connect with your teen this summer?

This hands-on woodworking workshop is designed for parents and teens to learn side-by-side—building real skills, real projects, and a shared experience you won’t get from screens or classrooms.

No experience needed—just show up ready to make something awesome together!

This isn’t just a class—it’s a shared experience.

You and your teen will:
• Work side-by-side on real woodworking projects
• Learn practical, hands-on skills most kids never get exposure to
• Build confidence using real tools in a safe environment
• Walk away with something you made together

It’s the kind of experience that sticks.

We’ll start with the fundamentals, including:

• Woodworking safety and shop basics
• Types of wood and how to work with them
• Measuring, cutting, and prepping materials
• Core woodworking techniques used in DIY and creative projects

After a short intro, you’ll jump right into building.

Together, you’ll use tools including:

• Miter saw
• Table saw
• Drill
• Planer
• Scroll saw
• Hands tools

Our instructors guide you step-by-step, making it easy and approachable for both parents and teens.

By the end of class, you’ll complete your own woodworking projects—something you can both take pride in and show off at home.

More importantly, you’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and a shared experience that sticks.

All tools, materials, and safety equipment are provided.

The Collab MakerSpace is a 3,000 sq ft community workshop just north of Downtown Los Angeles (next door to the San Antonio Winery and the iconic Brewery Arts Complex,) with free, easy parking.

Think of it like a gym for makers—offering access to woodworking, metal, and creative tools without the cost of building your own shop. We help beginners, hobbyists, and working artists build real skills through hands-on classes and community.
