Experience the rich legacy of Padma Vibhushan Dr. T. Balasaraswati in this immersive Bharatanatyam workshop, led by Aniruddha Knight, the ninth generation to carry forward this illustrious lineage. Step into the world of one of India’s most revered dance traditions at this hands-on Bharatanatyam session, hosted by the Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts. Guided by Aniruddha Knight, grandson of the legendary Dr T. Balasaraswati, it offers a unique opportunity to engage with the baani (style) of Bharatanatyam that Dr Balasaraswati and her family made world-famous. ‘Parampara Pravaha’ will deep-dive into the distinctive techniques and demanding adavus of Dr. T. Balasaraswati’s Bharatanatyam style, known for its authenticity and elegance. This is your chance to gain insight into the intricate relationship between nritta (pure dance) and abhinaya (expression) and understand how the two elements are interconnected through precise methodology and aesthetic movement. The workshop will also explore the interplay between music and dance, revealing how the nuances of abhinaya are enriched by musical interpretation, creating a deeply emotive and holistic performance. Aniruddha will be joined by two talented dancers, Maharani Parisumuthu and Abinaya Senthil, who bring a profound passion for the art form with over ten years of experience. Both have performed extensively in India and internationally, including prestigious festivals in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo and Bangkok. Together, they will demonstrate the beauty and rigour of the dance form while offering valuable insights from their journeys. The Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts was founded by Aniruddha Knight and has since become a cornerstone for those seeking a deep, authentic understanding of Bharatanatyam. The institute is dedicated to preserving the unique approach to Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music upheld by the Balasaraswati family for nine generations and nearly 300 years. With over 300 students across multiple branches, the institute continues to nurture future generations of artists, committed to the highest standards of classical performance. Join us for this exclusive session to connect with a living legacy and experience the artistry, discipline and beauty that define Dr. T. Balasaraswati’s style.
