About this Event

Join cultural historian Josh Kun and filmmaker Alex Rivera for the opening discussion in the PARA/normal Borders Conversation Series, a public program of the 2026–27 MexiCali Biennial.

Drawing from their work across music, film, media, and cultural history, Kun and Rivera - both MacArthur Fellows - will explore how stories, images, and sound shape the ways histories are recorded, circulated, and remembered throughout the U.S.–Mexico borderlands. Together, they will examine how artistic and scholarly practices connect communities, recover overlooked histories, and imagine new futures beyond conventional understandings of the border.
