About this Event
About the Workshop
Work with paper artist Nathan Ward to reimagine paper specialist G . F Smith's iconic collection book into a new 3D sculpture; professional artist Nathan will share techniques and insights for working with paper.
Each participant will be given their own workshop collection book from which they can remove papers of their choice and create a unique paper sculpture based on the papers they choose from the collection. Participants can choose to work with any of the papers from the collection during the workshop, including coloured, embossed, metallic and textured papers. It's an opportunity to explore the G . F Smith collection in a hands-on way.
Nathan will provide templates for making the sculpture and full instruction during the course of the activity. The workshop lasts up to two hours, and participants must be aged 16 or above. All necessary tools and materials supplied. This activity should be accessible to most.'
About Nathan Ward
Nathan Ward is a London-based Paper Artist who enjoys pushing the possibilities of paper as a material. In his studio in Kingston Upon Thames, Nathan creates intricately crafted paper illustrations and animations, including large-scale sets, window displays and installations. Graduating from Kingston University’s BA Illustration Animation course in 2020, Nathan and his then-fellow student team were the first to hold a student exhibition supported by and in collaboration with G.F Smith in their then-show space.
Nathan loves that paper, a tactile material that we all encounter in our everyday lives, in its flat form, can be manipulated and elevated into beautiful sculptures. Nathan enjoys sharing his love of paper with the public and regularly engages in workshops with schools and other organisations. Working within a commercial papercraft field, Nathan has worked with clients including Fortnum & Mason, the English National Opera, The National Trust and The Ned London, to name but a few.
