About Marbling:
The ancient art of paper marbling is nothing short of magical. Artisans have created decorated papers using these techniques for centuries. Not only are these patterned papers rich in artistic expression, but they also have great practical and decorative value for artisans, craftspeople, designers, and decorators.
About the Instructor:
My name is Robin Ashby, Marbler, Author and Bookbinder. My journey into Book Arts began in 2015 with my quite accidental introduction to marbling at an historic re-enactment of the Battle of Paoli in Chester County, PA. From the moment I saw the paper pulled from the marbling bath, I was smitten by this mystical craft. Expanding on my love of books and craft, I then ventured into learning the traditional craft of hand bookbinding and restoration. During my bookbinding studies, I was reacquainted with the ancient art of marbling. Today, I have realigned my work to focus more on marbling and instruction.
About the Class:
The workshop includes an introduction to the ancient art of paper marbling during a six-hour workshop. Students will learn the marbling process, terminology as well as the artistic aspect of color combination and marbling. This class focuses on acrylic marbling and all students will create between 15-20 sheets of paper while learning the most common marbling patterns created: chevron, peacock, bouquet, and freestyle.
Marbled paper can be used for many applications such as bookbinding, cards, invitations, and unique gifts. Limited only by one’s imagination, the art of marbling provides endless ways to express one’s creativity.
Length: 6 hours including 30-minute break for lunch.
Supplies: Apron, lunch, and drink. A kitchen with fridge/freezer, sink and microwave are available to the students.
Clothing: Wear something that you won’t mind possibly getting paint on.
