About the speakers:
Brady Michaels
Brady Michaels is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer and designer based in Lutruwita / Tasmania. Their practice explores personal narrative and autobiography, politics, history and popular culture to reflect on and communicate lived experiences relating to the LGBTQIA+ community and society more broadly. Brady’s work reflects the common and shared experience of being human in a complex and ever-changing world, using the personal and public archive as materials and a remix methodology to tell stories in words, in pictures and in person.
Olga Tsara
Olga Tsara has worked as a librarian with the pictorial collections of the State Library Victoria for over 20 years. Her research interests are in photography and political graphics, particularly political posters. For the Future Foundations exhibition, she will be discussing feminist poster design as it emerged from Melbourne's alternative poster presses, the trade union movement, and independent feminist publishers in the late 1970s through to the 90s and focusing on a number of posters from the SLV’s significant poster archives.
Nick Henderson
Nick Henderson is a curator, archivist and producer, who works as a Curator at the National Film and Sound Archive, and volunteers as a Committee Member and Collection Manager with the Australian Queer Archives. Nick has worked at national and state cultural institutions for 25 years, and for the past 20 years has been highly active at the intersection of queer and marginalised histories and the GLAM sector across Australia. Nick will be talking about feminist poster collectives from Sydney in the 1980s, including the Womens Domestic Needlework Group, Women's Warehouse Screenprinters, Harridan Screenprinters, Matilda Graphics, and ArtyMs.
Free, no bookings required.
