About this Event
After the passion for the Moon faded in the 1970s, it once again became a distant unreachable object - many of us doubted that we would ever return. Now, in the 21 st century, we are seeing a resurgent desire to return to the Moon. Successful missions by the USSR, the US, China, and India, have recently included private companies as well as national space agencies. A dozen more countries are currently working on moon probes. The debate as to whether we should prioritise Mars or the Moon has been won by the latter. This year we have seen the first return to the Moon by humans since 1972 with NASA’s Artemis program. But what is driving this new-found passion – and what will happen when we get there?
This panel asks what explains this resurging interest in our nearest neighbour, what are these states and companies seeking there, what could happen when we arrive, and what is the potential geopolitical fall out.
