About this Event
What We Learn From Our Lolas (Grandmothers)
Every family carries stories.
Some are told over and over again. Some come out while we're cooking, looking through an old photo album, or sitting around the table. And some we don't think to ask about until we're older.
Where did our family come from?
What was life like when you were young?
What did you bring with you when you left home?
This gathering is rooted in Kapwa (Community), the understanding that our stories are connected. Our elders carry memories and lived experiences that help us understand where we've been. Our younger generations carry new questions, ideas, and possibilities for where we can go next.
What to Expect
This will be a warm, community-centered space for Lolas, parents, young people, families, and community members to spend time together.
Through storytelling, conversation, and hands-on reflection, we'll explore the things families carry across generations: photographs, traditions, recipes, sayings, heirlooms, migration stories, memories, and everyday lessons.
We'll make space for younger generations to ask questions and for our elders to share in their own words.
Preserving culture isn't only about remembering where we came from. It's about making sure the next generation has something to carry forward.
