You are invited to Palmer Park's Log Cabin Day and Ice Cream Social, an annual free festival on Sunday, June 28 from 1-4 pm. Join the fun, and consider being a volunteer and help bring smiles to many! Sign up and learn more: logcabinday2026.eventbrite.com
Come celebrate at the historic Log Cabin with art and hat-making, a children's hat and bonnet parade/contest (prizes for all children), live music and dancing, tours of the historic log cabin, demonstrations of weaving, quilting and spinning, and the 102nd USCT Black History Civil War group.
Volunteers can help with face painting, helping children make bonnets for the parade, serve ice cream, and many other fun opportunities. Optional: Dress in 1800s-early 1900's attire to get into the spirit of the festival (it's National Log Cabin Day!).
Excited to present so many wonderful artists and historians: • Free ice cream for the first 500 attendees!
• Live Music with the Boblo Islanders
• Hat & Bonnet Parade-Contest for children with prizes for all!
• Art making: Make a hat or bonnet for the parade-contest before 3 pm.
• MCs Marsha Music and Orlandus Dunning
• Weaving and child-friendly hands-on art making with artist Michael Daitch
• Queen Lynette Halalay and her magic spinning wheel
• Quilters and fabric artists: displays, demonstrations and meet the artists
• Mama Denise in the historic Log Cabin Kitchen (shake it up and making butter with the kids!)
• Historians and tours of the Log Cabin, an acclaimed landmark built in 1885 by Sen and Mrs Palmer and restored by People for Palmer Park and the City of Detroit (more restoration to come, but the transformation is astonishing and so much gorgeous preservation has been accomplished).
