Palestrina turns 500 this year. To celebrate the legacy of this Italian Renaissance composer, Musica Transalpina has uncovered works that reflect his influence on 17th, 18th, and19th-century musicians -- in German-speaking Europe.

SANTA MONICA BAY WOMAN'S CLUB

Classical Revival-style building completed in 1914. Spacious entranceway opens to ballroom and auditorium (second floor). Home to one of the City of Santa Monica’s oldest social institutions.

ITALIA UND GERMANIA (1828)

Allegorical painting by Lübeck-born Nazarene Johann Friedrich Oberbeck (1789-1869). Like the work of other Nazarenes, Oberbeck's Renaissance-inspired style was accompanied by long stays in Italy -- and conversion to Roman Catholicism.
