Join Justice for Palestine on Saturday, April 18th to mark Palestinian Prisoners Day, and recognise the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in their fight for justice and liberation from Israeli oppression.
On March 30th , 2026 Israel passed a barbaric law approving the use of a default death penalty against Palestinians in a clear violation of international law. It was celebrated in the Knesset with champagne, cheers and noose pendants. The law marks a new chapter in Israeli terror, and is worded specifically to target Palestinians living under occupied military law in the West Bank. This ruling is meant to normalise the sanctioned, public deaths of Palestinians, and there is no legal recourse for detainees once they have been sentenced to death.
There are approximately 10,000 Palestinian prisoners currently being held in brutal and inhumane conditions in Israeli detention, several hundred of whom are children. Israel has been indiscriminately imprisoning Palestinians for 77 years, with arrests reaching record numbers from October 7th 2023. Palestinian prisoners are subject to brutal torture, starvation, and violations of basic human rights at the hands of Israel and Israeli soldiers.
Each year, April 17th is dedicated to Palestinian detainees and political prisoners, their families, and their freedom. In light of the barbarous death penalty law passed by Israel, it is more important than ever to show support for Palestinian detainees and their families.
From the US/Israeli aggression in the SWANA region, the repression of Palestinian activism worldwide, and the unjust rates of indigenous detainment at home in Aotearoa, come show up and show out in support of our Palestinian whānau and all those imprisoned under colonial rule of law.
