Painting En Plein Air with Paul Chizik

This follow-up workshop invites participants to take their practice outdoors and apply foundational skills through plein air landscape painting. Building on the previous session’s focus on working from photographic reference, this class shifts attention to direct observation—capturing light, atmosphere, and changing conditions in real time.
Participants will work on location in Whistler, developing their ability to quickly assess composition, establish strong value structures, and interpret colour relationships as they appear in nature. Emphasis will be placed on observation, simplification, and decision-making, with guidance on how to adapt techniques and materials for outdoor conditions.
The instructor will provide ongoing demonstrations and individual feedback throughout the session, helping participants navigate challenges such as shifting light, weather, and time constraints. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the immediacy and responsiveness required in plein air painting, and greater confidence in translating what they see into expressive landscape studies.
All art materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.
