Painted Bunting banding demo at Hammocks Beach State Park

Join us for a monthly Painted Bunting banding demonstration — a rare opportunity to witness avian field research in action. From 7–11am, our team will be conducting banding operations as part of our ongoing population monitoring efforts. Visitors are welcome to arrive at any point during the session to observe the capture, processing, and release of birds firsthand.
As with all wildlife research, Painted Bunting activity is subject to natural variation and cannot be guaranteed. That said, our monthly sessions have yielded consistent results, and we look forward to sharing whatever the morning brings.
This event is free and open to all — whether you're a seasoned birder, a curious newcomer, or bringing young naturalists along for their first look at field science. Find us at the gazebo at the visitors center!
