This course is not a “pain education” or communication skills course. Pain Unstuck offers a fresh and practical perspective on pain and exercise rehabilitation through the lens of Active Inference. Active Inference challenges traditional models of how the nervous system functions and offers a compelling framework to guide clinical reasoning and intervention. Rather than viewing pain solely as a sensory signal or a psychological construct, this two-day course helps participants understand that pain emerges somewhere in between—from the dynamic interaction between sensory inputs and unconscious predictions.
The course includes:
- The identification and exclusion of red flags
- Appropriate medical (medication) management and referral indications
- The safe use of exercise as a therapeutic tool for patients with persistent pain.
Through real-life case studies, participants will learn how to help patients:
- Understand that it's safe to move,
- Feel that it's safe to move, Experience safe movement,
- And regain confidence through repeated exposure to meaningful activity.
This course provides a supportive, reflective space for clinicians to explore the challenges of working with people in pain. Participants will discover contemporary, evidence-informed strategies to integrate exercise safely and meaningfully, with a strong emphasis on patient engagement. Together, we'll navigate the evidence, embrace uncertainty, and share clinical insights in a judgement-free environment. This course with a refreshed perspective on pain and practical tools to enhance your clinical practice.
