About this Event
Presentation Title: What’s in their DNA? Understanding the diversity and connectedness of our eelgrass meadows
Summary: Eelgrass meadows are critical to keeping our nearshore environments healthy by providing nursery habitat for juvenile fish, improving water quality, and protecting shorelines from erosion. Using genetic analyses, Bryan will reveal how connected – or unique – eelgrass meadows are across the State of Washington and within Padilla Bay. Understanding these genetic relationships enables us to make smarter conservation decisions, such as prioritizing which meadows to protect or selecting the best source populations for successful transplant-based restoration.
