Paddles up! The time has come to cheer on The Purpose Paddler (Joe Motz) and a flotilla as they launch canoes and kayaks to Paddle for a Purpose. Arrival: 8:30 AM
Boats in the water: 8:45 AM
First Paddle Stroke: 9 AM
Look for the Shelter Cove Marina sign! Special thanks to UCRAF Rowing Center and University of Cincinnati Rowing Alumni and Friends for hosting this awesome event!
Several adaptive paddlers from The Bridge Adaptive Sports & Recreation, as well as members from Adventure Crew will join in on the fun. If you love paddling, we invite you to bring your boat* and join us on the first leg of the journey to the Cincinnati Public Landing.
Joe will then continue the 3,000-mile canoe expedition that will go down the Ohio River, up the Mississippi, up the Illinois and into Lake Michigan, cross over into Canada, go through the Northern Tier, back down Lake Huron to Lake Erie, and then down the Ohio to Cincinnati to complete the loop. For about a third of the trip Joe will travel downstream, a third will be flat, and a third upstream. A photo of the map is included so you can see the whole route!
*Anyone joining in the paddle, please ensure you meet all safety requirements for being on the water, and secure your own transportation/logistical support for water entry and exit.
