Pack 71's annual Pinewood Derby is coming up! It is in the gymnasium at Spring Ridge Elementary. Invite your family and friends to attend, all are welcome.
Two week before the Pinewood Derby there will be a "weigh-in." The first weigh-in night is to check for any adjustments that need to be made. You may make them there or take it home, make any needed changes and bring it to the second weigh-in. Once your car meets requirements we will hold your car until the race. CARS MUST BE LEFT WITH PACK BY THE SECOND WEIGH-IN.
Length, width and weight requirements are in the instructions. Notice the 3/8" clearance necessary underneath the car to ride down the rail of the track without rubbing/dragging. Make sure to ONLY use BSA approved parts like wheels, there are other "pinewood derby" accessories in local stores that CANNOT be used. NO part of the car may be in front of the starting pin that the car rests against at the starting line.
Any siblings of scouts who wish to build and race a car are welcome to for just the cost of the car, $7.00. Winners of this Open Class will receive certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Cars are available at the Gottschaulk Scout Shop. Medallions will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in Lions. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies for Tigers on up. And fastest car overall will receive a trophy as well!
