About this Event
P is for Pueo Book Launch with Author & Honolulu Zoo Bird Keeper Katie Tobin
Join the Honolulu Zoo Society for a special evening celebrating the launch of P is for Pueo: A Hawaiian Alphabet Book with author and illustrator Katie Tobin—one of the Honolulu Zoo's dedicated bird keepers.
Inspired by Hawaiʻi's extraordinary native birds, P is for Pueo introduces readers to each letter of the Hawaiian alphabet through playful rhymes, vibrant illustrations, and fascinating feathered friends—from the tiny ʻanianiau to the beloved pueo. Written and illustrated by Katie, the book blends her passion for wildlife, conservation, and education into a beautiful story that inspires curiosity in readers of all ages.
During the evening, Katie will share the inspiration behind creating P is for Pueo, offer a closer look at her work with the Honolulu Zoo's native bird collection, and discuss the important role these remarkable species play in Hawaiʻi's unique ecosystems. Whether you're a family with young readers, a bird enthusiast, an educator, or simply someone who loves Hawaiʻi's natural world, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with conservation through storytelling.
Copies of P is for Pueo will be available for purchase and signing. Even more meaningful, Katie is donating her author proceeds to the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project in support of the ʻAlalā Project, helping protect Hawaiʻi's endangered native birds for future generations.
We hope you'll join us for an evening of stories, conservation, and celebrating the incredible birds that call Hawaiʻi home.
