Ozarks Conversations, a series that will run April through August, invites audiences to look beyond familiar narratives and reconsider the Ozarks’ part of the American tapestry through the sharing of stories and thoughts. This event, Modernity and the Ozarks, will take place on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at 6:00pm in the Ozarks Heritage Research Center, and will be led by Carol Silvey, emeritus professor of history at MSU-WP.This series is made possible with funding from Missouri Humanities. The event is sponsored by the OHRC. It is also sponsored by West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA), which receives funding from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
The conversations in this series will feature different eras of history that transformed America, and they will be facilitated by OHRC supporters and board members. Attendees will be invited to share stories and thoughts about how the Ozarks are part of the American tapestry. Tools and resources of the OHRC will be highlighted as components to preserve the cultural distinctions of the Ozarks.
