A seminar exploring the latest research into the history and politics of healthcare across Oxfordshire.
About this Event

This seminar is one of a new six-part event series taking place this autumn, hosted by Oxford University's Community History Hub. The events will showcase a range of innovative local historical projects run by, or in partnership with, community historians. Join us to learn about the latest new research being conducted on Oxfordshire's diverse histories, as well as gaining new skills that could help you shape your own project ideas.

On 24 October, come and engage with Oxford academics researching about the evolution of healthcare across the county, and working at the interface of policy-making and community engagement.

  • Dr Sally Frampton has been working with a range of community mental health organisations (including Restore, Oxfordshire Recovery College, and My Life, My Choice) to develop a historical overview of the changing nature of mental health treatment across the county. Her team has developed a number of free resources based on their research, including an oral history archive and teaching resources for schools, which you can find online via the Oxford Health Histories website.
  • The Oxfordshire Health Humanities project works with Oxfordshire County Council and local community enterprises to evaluate community health initiatives and provide insight into health inequalities. Prof Erica Charters will discuss the challenges and opportunities of using humanities and history methods in community health, particularly in Oxfordshire.
  • Sally and Erica will be joined by Dan Leveson (Director for Places and Communities) and Stuart Bell (former Chief Executive of Oxford Health NHS FT and a History graduate) to discuss health and history policy engagement in Oxford.

The event is free and everyone is welcome, but please note that the number of spaces available is limited, so do book in advance. If you have any questions about the event, you are welcome to contact Dr Priya Atwal (Community History Fellow) via email at [email protected].
