Oxford castle is a large Norman medieval castle. The castle has witnessed many battles including the English civil war, where it served as the temporary royal capital. The castle has had many royal and noble visitors over the years, some who passed away within its walls.
Later used as the county prison for Oxfordshire and Berkshire with many upgrades made to the building during this time and only closing as a prison in 1996.
Poltergeist activity and ghostly apparitions have been witnessed here, particularly in the crypt which dates back 900 years. An abundance of activity has also been reported in the cells, doors have been witnessed slamming shut of their own accord, heavy foot steps and people being touched have all been experienced here, some of these spooky goings on have even been experienced by the castle staff!
