Florida Youth Triathlon Foundation, Inc., (FYT) is proud to be sponsoring a brand-new youth event for the Tampa Bay Area on May 16th at Pass-a-Grille beach. We have partnered with OWS Leo, founder of Open Water Swim, LLC, to open an existing adult open water swim event, free of charge, to kids. To keep things safe, the kids event will be capped at the first 20 kids who RSVP. To pre-register you contact us via email to confirm your child’s participation and receive a code to register them through the RunSignUp page.We also encourage the families that join us to stick around for some family fun at the beach. We will bring snacks and drinks.

Cost: Completely free to swimmers 15 and under. You must follow our Facebook page and contact us via email at contact @floridayouthtriathlon.org. Anyone 16 or older (including any parent who wants to swim side-by-side with their child) is invited to separately register via the event page at

Location: 1501 Gulf Way Saint Petersburg, FL US 33706 (We will be on the beach directly across from Hurley Park, the closest restroom)
Date/Time: Saturday May 16, 2026 @ 7:00 a.m.
Distances: .5 mile (with prior approval), or the "swim what you can" category where we will help you determine an appropriate distance. You MUST let us know what distance your child intends to swim prior to registration. Please contact us if you have any questions about the distance before you register. A half mile OWS looks a LOT bigger in person, and its easy to overestimate your abilities at the beginning.
How to Join us: You MUST pre-register by indicating you are going on this page AND email contact @floridayouthtriathlon.org on or before May 23, 2026. All participants must sign in-waivers for FYT. You must also follow the Florida Youth Triathlon Facebook Page to be eligible.

Leo boasts an impressive resume, including USMS Level 3, USA Swim Coach, USA Triathlon Level 1 coach, slow twitch triathlon swim coach, safety director for Swim Across America, Open Water Swim, LLC, and Leo’s Safe Swim Foundation. But more than anything, Leo is known for his relentless dedication to building athletes up with positivity. His events are known for being fun and inviting to all. We hope you bring your family and have some fun with us.
Disclaimer: FYT will not be providing any sort of beach or in-water supervision of any kind. Thus, while we invite you and your family to spend the day at the beach with us, we require that you provide a responsible adult to always monitor their safety where they are not actively participating in the open water swim. You will be required to sign liability waivers for OWS Leo and FYT as a condition of participation.
