Owl Sessions at Hillbrow is a new programme of high-quality business and leadership events designed to bring world-class speakers, fresh thinking and practical professional development opportunities to Eastbourne.
Hosted at Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing in the lecture theatre, the sessions are intended to create a local platform for meaningful learning, connection and collaboration. The programme supports local businesses, senior leaders and professionals by providing access to high-value insight without the need to travel to London or larger city venues.
The session will feature Ben Timpson, founder of The Briefing Course, as keynote speaker. Ben is a former Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander and Oxford Saïd Business School lecturer, bringing a rare combination of military experience, academic insight and high-level communication expertise.
Ben is a highly experienced military communicator who has briefed Prime Ministers, Generals, Admirals and Secretary Generals. He is also a two-time Cicero World Speechwriting Award winner, with clients including Google, Uber, Microsoft, Moët & Chandon and Oxford Saïd Business School.
His session, “Making Better Decisions with Half the Information - Bringing the Best Military Thinking to Business,” will explore how military communication principles can be applied in business, leadership and operational environments.
In high-pressure military settings, communication is not simply a useful skill- it can be the difference between success and failure, safety and risk, clarity and confusion. Ben will share how to communicate effectively when situations are complex, urgent or uncertain, and how leaders can ensure their messages are understood, acted upon and remembered.
