Itinerary
🎨 4:00–5:00 PM Watercolor Owl Art
We'll begin our evening with a special owl-themed watercolor lesson!
Children will create their own watercolor owl using a fun wet-on-wet watercolor technique to create a beautiful background and almost tie-dye effect for the owl. Once their paintings have dried, we'll use a black Sharpie to outline the owl and bring the finished artwork to life.
🖌️ I will provide:
• Watercolor paints
• Paintbrushes
• Watercolor paper
• Art supplies needed for the lesson
We could use a few extra hair dryers! If you have one you can bring and share for drying paintings, please let me know.
This will be a beautiful take-home keepsake from our Owl Prowl evening!

🌲 5:00–6:00 PM Owl Prowl at Dunwoody Nature Center
We'll then head into the Nature Center's Owl Prowl program, where the children will learn more about these incredible birds of prey through games, activities, and hands-on exploration.
The program will include:
🦉 Owl-themed activities
🦴 Owl pellet dissection
🌙 A night hike through the woods
👂 Listening and looking for owls and other nighttime wildlife
This is where the evening really comes alive as we transition from daylight into the nighttime forest!

🔥 6:00–7:00 PM S'mores & Campfire
We'll finish our evening gathered around the campfire with s'mores for our participating children! 🔥🍫
S'mores are included in the $35 cost for the 20 participating children.
If you are bringing additional children who are not registered participants, please plan to bring additional s'mores supplies for them, as our food cost only covers the 20 participating children.

🎒 What Should We Bring?
You don't need to bring any special supplies for the activities!
I would recommend bringing:
💧 A water bottle
🥨 A snack for your child to enjoy during the afternoon/evening
Because this is an evening event and dinner will fall around or after the end of our program, please plan accordingly so your child doesn't arrive hungry. We will have s'mores toward the end of the event, but they are intended as a campfire treat rather than dinner.

🌙 OPTIONAL AFTER-EVENT DINNER
Since we'll be finishing around 7:00 PM, if families are interested, we may make a plan to head somewhere nearby for dinner afterward and continue the fellowship!
This would be completely optional and separate from the field trip, and each family would be responsible for their own meal. I'll see what interest there is closer to the event and we can coordinate a group dinner if enough families would like to join us! ❤️

🦉 A FEW IMPORTANT DETAILS 🦉
• **20 participating children MAXIMUM**
• Registration is for school-aged children**, not adults or younger siblings not participating in the actual lesson/programming.
• Parents/guardians are welcome and expected to attend with their children
• The $35 participation fee includes the field trip experience, watercolor art lesson and materials, and s'mores for participating children
• Please dress appropriately for an outdoor evening and comfortable walking
• We will be outside and on the trails during the night hike, so comfortable shoes are recommended
• Please bring a water bottle and a snack for the afternoon

I am so excited about this one! There's something extra special about learning about owls and then actually stepping into the woods as the sun goes down, listening for them in their natural habitat. Add watercolor painting, owl pellets, a night hike, and s'mores around a campfire..... and we have the makings of a pretty unforgettable homeschool adventure! 🦉🌙🔥
