Owen Brown Fall Shrub Giveaway

Fall into the Season with a tree or shrub! To qualify for a free tree, you must be a property owner in the Owen Brown Association and agree to install the tree on your OB property, soon-after taking possession. Trees should be picked up October 10th at the Owen Brown Community Center

Red Chokeberry- is a deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub native to Eastern North America, known for its attractive flowers, vibrant fall foliage, and edible berries.

Soil Preferences: It thrives in average to medium moisture, well-drained soils and can tolerate a wide range of soil types, including boggy conditions

Light Requirements: The plant prefers full sun to part shade, with the best fruit production occurring in full sun

Bottlebrush Buckeye- a large, deciduous, suckering shrub native to the southeastern United States, prized for its long, white, bottlebrush-like flower clusters and attractive foliage.

Soil Preferences: thriving in moist, well-drained soils that can be acidic or alkaline.

Light Requirements: can grow in full sun, partial shade, or full shade, making it ideal for woodland gardens or understory plantings.

Spice Bush- a native deciduous shrub of eastern North America, valued for its aromatic leaves, early yellow flowers, and ecological importance.

Soil Preference- thrives in moist, well-drained, loamy soil that is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic to neutral in pH.

Light Requriements- Partial shade to full shade, with 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Smoothleaf Hydrangea(Hydrangea arborescens)- also known as wild or smooth leaf hydrangea, is a tough, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub native to eastern North America that features large, serrated green leaves and massive rounded flower clusters.

Soil Preference-Performs best in rich, moist, well-drained soils. It dislikes long-term dry spells and will need supplemental watering during hot summer droughts.

Light Requirements-Prefers partial shade, especially protection from hot afternoon sun in southern regions, though it adapts to more sun if given adequate moisture.
