Overview: Supported Decision-Making
What if support didn't mean giving up the right to make your own decisions? Discover how Supported Decision-Making (SDM) empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to retain their legal rights while building a trusted network to help navigate life's choices. Explore this practical alternative to guardianship and learn how it fosters confidence, independence, and self-determination.
Whether you are a self-advocate, family member, caregiver, or professional, this session will provide a practical introduction to Supported Decision-Making, including how to identify trusted supporters, create formal or informal support agreements, and determine when SDM may be an appropriate alternative to guardianship.
Craig Mennig is the Member Relations Manager at Person Centered Services and serves as a Supported Decision-Making Facilitator and Mentor. With nearly three decades of experience in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field, Craig has worked in residential supports, family support services, care coordination, self-advocacy, and community collaboration. He brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to help individuals and families better understand their rights, options, and opportunities for greater independence.
