About this Event

...

Join us at Redmires Reservoirs for this one-day workshop engaging in processes of deep ecological listening, and creative methods of exploring landscape through body, sound and expanded ideas of multi-species language.

Throughout the day we will collectively consider how we might re-connect with land through creatively using our voices, bodies, writing or drawing as tools to ‘unlearn’ and ‘re-language’; exploring how we might listen to our wild scapes and begin to decipher their languages.

This workshop, led by artist Kirsty Badenoch, is part of a wider research project Prototyping Multi-species Encounters: Relating to Redmires Reservoirs Residents at the University of Sheffield.

MEET - 9:45 - 10am
Gather at Wyming Brook carpark (S10 4QX)

INTRODUCTIONS - 10 - 10:15am

UNLEARNING:
Introductory guides on methods of ‘unlearning’ our human language: we will engage in processes of deep listening and listening as restoration - considering our relationship(s) with the land, how the more-than-human may communicate with us and perhaps how we may communicate with them.

RE-LANGUAGING (Part 1):
Guided slow walking and attending to the landscape with our bodies: listening to and collecting a new set of more-than-human languages. Through slow movement, drawing and voice, we will experiment with bodily and sensory processes of conversing with- and responding to- our surrounding environment.

REFLECTION:
A comfort break and chance to discuss and reflect on our morning experiences.
Snacks will be provided.

RE-LANGUAGING (Part 2):
Expanding on our experiences and reflections in Part 1, we will deepen our emerging listening practices as individuals and as a collective; with opportunities to follow your intuition, bring in your own personal creative practice, or try something new.

LUNCH - 1:15 - 2pm
Lunch will be provided by catering from Open Kitchen Social, Sheffield.

RETURNING:
We will begin our return with some further group reflection on the experiences of the day, followed by a guided exploration utilising our own individual and collective voice(s), which introduces our more-than-human experiences back into the urban environment, ending back at our initial meeting point.

END - 3pm
The workshop will end at 3pm. You are welcome to return home or stay to further explore the beautiful Redmires Reservoirs independently.
