Karin Weber Gallery is excited to announce local artist OrangeTerry’s debut solo exhibition in Hong Kong. ‘Over-Resourced’ explores how surplus materials can inspire new forms and challenge our understanding of function and aesthetics.
The show also celebrates a decade of OrangeTerry’s contributions to post-industrial design—a movement that emerged in the wake of the industrial revolution, prioritizing sustainability and ingenuity. Through an exploration of excess materials and discarded scraps, OrangeTerry redefines how we perceive and interact with objects in our environment.
Blurring the lines between function and form, his works reject traditional object classifications, instead proposing unconventional yet thought-provoking alternatives. From upcycled materials to hybrid objects that challenge consumer logic, OrangeTerry’s creations question our everyday relationships with material goods, urging viewers to rethink aesthetics, purpose, and waste in a world of excess.
Curated by Alice Wong, ‘Over-Resourced’ is a vibrant testament to OrangeTerry’s unique vision and the transformative power of creative reuse.
About the Artist and Curator:
OrangeTerry (b. 1993, Hong Kong) obtained his BA (Hons.) in Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2015. Rooted in a fascination with overlooked and discarded materials, his work challenges traditional design paradigms by blending sustainability, functionality, and conceptual creativity.
In 2017, he received the Young Design Talent Award from Hong Kong Design Centre, which provided him with the opportunity to work at the renowned Spanish design studio ACdO (Álvaro Catalán de Ocón). OrangeTerry has also collaborated with notable fashion and luxury brands such as Rimowa and Adidas.
Recent exhibitions include ‘tong1 fong4’ (2024) and ‘Botanical Wonders’ (2023) at Karin Weber Gallery, HK, ‘DIAKALIN’, Square Street Gallery, HK (2024), ‘Adidas Home of Sport’ (2023) at the Adidas Hong Kong Flagship Store, ‘Migrate’ at Milan Fashion Week (2023), ‘As Seen By’, a touring exhibition shown in Milan, Berlin, and Tokyo (2022), ‘Canto POP Skate Exhibition’, Soho House, HK (2021), and ‘Weave Upon A Time’ at The Mills, HK (2021). His work is in the permanent collection of Rimowa, Germany.
Curator Alice Wong (b. 1989) is a story designer and curator based in the Netherlands and Hong Kong. She holds an MA in Information Design from Design Academy Eindhoven, where she graduated in 2015. Her work explores the intersection of biographical documentary, media, and social phenomena. Alice specializes in transforming complex research into accessible narratives, often using archival and found materials to challenge perceptions of reality and ask: “Who told you so?”
Wong’s dedication to story design has been celebrated on a global stage. This year, she will participate in the Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Her work has also earned recognition, including a nomination for Beazley Designs of the Year in 2020, the Young Design Talent Award in 2020, and multiple Best Experimental Film Awards since 2016.
She makes her curatorial debut in Hong Kong with ‘Over-Resourced’, Orange Terry’s solo show. As she steps into the curatorial realm, Alice brings her thoughtful approach to storytelling, using it as a lens to reimagine our relationship with culture, materials, and narratives.
