About this Event

Part of our Filmmaking in Focus strand
Writer / Director Kevin Walls leads this Masterclass in directing a feature film. Walls debut feature Premature releases in Cinemas on 16 September 2026.
The masterclass dives into developing and funding your idea, the importance of preparing for the shoot, tips for directing actors and planning your distribution.
Kevin Walls is a writer, director, and producer from Glasgow, and the founder of SonorousFilms. His art school graduation film Identical won the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Sound in 2015, and his short film When Abbie Met Emmy premiered at BFI Flare in 2019.
Walls was a member of the BBC Scottish Voices writing group. He produced and directed the pilot of Eat the Town for BBC Scotland before going on to write for the BBC Scotland continuing drama River City. His positive experiences working on low budget, low footprint independent films, along with the fast paced sets of River City, encouraged Kevin to rethink his own approach to filmmaking. That shift led him towards a grassroots production model, ultimately resulting in the production of Premature.
The film was produced independently on a production budget of £16,000, by a small core team, and was shot in the greater Glasgow area across 23 days in the summer of 2025.
