In our second annual “Outside with Pride,” a nature walk on queer ecologies led by Maine Master Naturalist, Nola Prevost, we’ll explore the nonheteronormative and non-cisnormative animals, plants, and fungi that inhabit our ecosystems. From gay rams to lesbian seagulls to transgender deer, we’ll talk about the phenomena of “biological exuberance,” as Bruce Bagemihl famously put it, and all its fabulous forms. Through the forests of Walden-Parke Preserve, we’ll take a walk to observe and discuss examples of pride… outside!
Please plan to bring proper footwear, and prepare to be outdoors, rain or shine.
Event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, please email: [email protected]
Nola Prevost is a Maine Master Naturalist and has served in the program's DEIJ workgroup since her graduation from the program in 2024. As a volunteer ecology educator, she has led Maine-based events on a variety of topics, such as fungi (mycology), coyote conservation (carnivore conservation biology) and queer ecology. When she's not out in the woods, or working full-time at the University of Maine as an administrative specialist, she's either writing, reading, gardening, or spending time with friends and family.
