Far Out West Community Garden & Outdoor Film Series in collaboration with the Wild & Scenic Film Festival
presents
California: Summit to Sea (6 short films totalling 53 minutes)

We are so excited to be collaborating with The Wild & Scenic Film Festival, organized and produced by the South Yuba River Citizens League. SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival has celebrated over two decades of inspiring activism through film and art. The Far Out West Community Outdoor Film Series is now an official Wild & Scenic Film Festival Tour Stop!

On Thursday, February 12th, 2026, we are proudly presenting a specially curated series of short films, entitled, California: Summit to Sea, 6 short films. This program, just under an hour, showcases Californiaʻs Trinity & Klamath Rivers, California’s ocean kelp forests, and more.

Tonight we are the last stop for the 23rd Annual Film Festival Tour. Just in time to get stoked for this yearsʻ 24th Annual festival in Nevada City and Grass Valley, CA February 19th-26th.

Featured Short Films:

Biopixels TRT: 3 MINUTES

Biopixels explores the world of evolutionary biology on the microscopic scale. Using the

latest light microscope technology, butterfly wings become micro-mosaics.

6000 Miles TRT: 17 MINUTES

In 6,000 Miles you'll meet Kayla Lopez, a multifaceted artist and river activist, alongside

Steve Evans, the impassioned Wild Rivers Director at CalWild. This compelling duo offers

an exciting and educational exploration of California's Wild Rivers, blending both

expertise and passion to illuminate the essence and threats to our precious waterways.

Paddle Tribal Waters TRT: 9 MINUTES

When the largest dam removal project in history begins, a group of indigenous youth

learn to whitewater kayak in hopes of becoming the first people to paddle the restored

river from source to sea.

Forests Above, Forests Below TRT: 6 MINUTES

Take a deep dive into California’s unique and irreplaceable underwater kelp forests that

have experienced catastrophic loss in the past decade. This piece was written and

supported by scientists at The Nature Conservancy and was filmed and produced by the

ColdWater Collective.

Soundscape TRT: 15 MINUTES

Soundscape features Erik Weihenmayer, a global adventure athlete and author who is

fully blind, as he ascends a massive alpine rock face deep in the Sierra Nevada. Using

expert camera work and emotive, novel animation to bring to life a concept by adaptive

climbing pioneer Timmy ONeill, the film is a surprising and soulful adventure.

You Are Not Small TRT: 3 MINUTES

Lucy Hawking, award winning children's book author, and daughter of scientist Stephen

Hawking, makes science accessible and engaging through her numerous books. Her

latest book series, Princess Olivia Investigates, is about a young girl who would rather be

a scientist than a princess. Our film, "You Are Not Small", is inspired by Olivia.

SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival inspires environmental activism and a love for nature–through film. Wild & Scenic shares an urgent call to action, encouraging festival-goers to learn more about what they can do to save our threatened planet. Save the Date for our 24th edition – February 19-23, 2026.

Their 5-day flagship festival is held annually in Nevada City and Grass Valley, California. Featuring 100+ films, workshops, visiting filmmaker and activist talks, family-friendly programs, art exhibitions, parties, and more.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). Locally, we raise funds and awareness to recover California’s wild salmon and protect the Yuba River watershed.

We take our festival On Tour to around 125+ events each year, partnering with groups working to protect and restore the important places in their communities. Wild & Scenic On Tour generates critical funds and increases awareness for grassroots environmental causes globally.
