Our Tres Grandes: Fidelio Ponce, Carlos Enríquez, and Amelia Peláez
About this Event
Join us for a lecture by Dr. Alejandro Anreus, a leading scholar of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx art.
Mexican muralism had its Tres Grandes—Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. The Cuban vanguardia had its own: Fidelio Ponce, Carlos Enríquez, and Amelia Peláez. What made these three artists distinctly original, profoundly Cuban, and yet universal?
This lecture will explore their lives, work, and historical context, with a particular focus on the “golden decade” of the 1940s, when Cuban art took its place on the world stage.
