Dianne Harvey-White delves into the lesser-known history of this early nineteenth century landmark building and its designer Samuel Wyatt.
About this Event

As the conservation programme nears its end, research undertaken by Diane Harvey-White in the last year has revealed more information about this enigmatic survivor from the early nineteenth century.

Diane explores the contemporaneous and social history of the era of construction and the impacts this had on the decisions made by the owners, the Board of Trustees for Ramsgate Harbour.

Placing this in context she considers how these decisions impact the building today and places it in the canon of work of the designer, Samuel Wyatt, Engineer to the Harbour from 1793-1807, revealing the true meaning of a building constructed to be useful to a working harbour.

Diane Harvey-White is a heritage advisor who has written a number of Conservation Management Plans for local buildings. She has lectured at University of Kent School of Art and Architecture and had articles published by the IHBC. Her lengthy research into Ramsgate Harbour is shortly to be published as the book Where Sea Meets the Land: Ramsgate Royal Harbour.
