The Georgia Straight Jazz Society is thrilled to announce that The Ostara Project will headline as we celebrate GSJS’s 20th anniversary of bringing great jazz to the Comox Valley.
The Ostara Project is a powerhouse collective that highlights the strength, artistry, and creative innovation of women in Canadian jazz. Led by award-winning bassist and composer Jodi Proznick, The Ostara Project brings together some of the country’s most compelling musicians — bandleaders, composers, and improvisers who reflect the broad cultural and musical diversity of Canada’s jazz landscape.
Their self-titled debut album (Cellar Live, 2022) earned a 2023 JUNO nomination, and the ensemble has since performed to packed houses and festival stages across the country. Their current creative work, The Ancestor’s Project, includes new recordings made at Vancouver’s renowned Warehouse Studio — part of a continuing artistic journey exploring lineage, identity, womanhood, and shared musical heritage.
“Calling The Ostara Project Canada’s all-female supergroup is neither excessive nor unwarranted.” — Textura
“Their musical connection is powerful, fluid, and deeply collaborative.” — Textura
