Originally from Madison, WI, guitar and steel guitar wizard Joel Paterson has been a mainstay of the Chicago roots music scene for over twenty years, playing with many bands and showcasing his unique blend of jazz, blues, rockabilly, country and western swing. In addition to solo shows that delve into the history of all-things-guitar, Joel’s current projects include: The Joel Paterson Trio; The Joel Paterson Quartet (seen weekly at the world-famous Green Mill Cocktail Lounge); and The Western Elstons (Chicago honky tonk favorites). He is also known for his instrumental recordings reminiscent of Les Paul and Chet Atkins—Joel’s album, Hi-Fi Christmas Guitar has become a holiday cult classic, even making the Rolling Stone list of top Christmas albums of 2018. As a studio musician, Joel can be heard on the recordings of the Cactus Blossoms, JD McPherson, Kelly Hogan, Pokey LaFarge, and Deke Dickerson.
Oscar "Mr. 43rd Street" Wilson is a true torchbearer of Chicago blues, celebrated for his powerful voice, captivating stage presence, and deep connection to the genre's South Side roots. Born in 1953 on Chicago's iconic 43rd Street—now known as Muddy Waters Drive—Oscar grew up surrounded by the sounds and spirit of the blues. The son of blues guitarist and vocalist H.S. Wilson, Oscar's upbringing was steeped in a rich musical tradition, with family gatherings frequented by legends like Junior Wells, Elmore James, and David "Honeyboy" Edwards.
Steam Machine is a midwest based old time/bluegrass music project fronted by award winning Minneapolis fiddler AJ Srubas and guitar player Rina Rossi. A shortlist of spectacular musicians perform with the band on banjo and bass.
Originally formed in Minneapolis in 2017, Steam Machine brought to the national stage a midwest influenced string band aesthetic that didn’t draw such hard lines between bluegrass and old time music. Smooth powerful fiddling, driving three finger banjo, front-of-the-beat rhythm backup combined into a “suspiciously entertaining” sound.
