Annual Original One-Acts: Fresh Stories, Local Talent!Join us for our annual Original One-Acts production—a night of bite-sized theatre packed with creativity, laughter, and heartfelt moments. These short plays, selected by our Playwriting Review Committee, showcase fresh voices and bold stories, brought to life by a talented cast of local performers.
This year’s original one-act showcase brings together a mix of humor, heartache, and discovery with plays that remind us just how unpredictable life can be. A romantic moment spirals into an obsession with social media perfection. A summer night lingers longer than expected, shifting lives in ways no one could have predicted. A family’s history unfolds with one unexpected discovery. Even in death, one woman realizes she still doesn’t have control over her own story.
Beneath the laughter and unexpected twists, these stories reflect something deeper: the world we live in today. We are more connected than ever, yet so many of us feel isolated. We document every moment but struggle to be present in them. We look back on history, sometimes in awe, sometimes in shame, but always with the knowledge that the choices we make now will become the history on which future generations reflect.
Art has always been a mirror, reflecting not just where we are, but where we could be. Theatre du Mississippi is dedicated to amplifying voices that challenge us to think, feel, and act. We believe in the power of new perspectives and are committed to showcasing emerging playwrights, directors, and performers, giving them a space to create, experiment, and grow.
