Course Description
In this course you will learn about the many successes of Racial Justice NOW! and how they were successful in organizing members of their community to effectively change local, county, and statewide policies, practices, and laws.
Participants will learn how this grassroots organization created change in their community and how their results can be duplicated.
Participants will learn a series of tactics and strategies and make a side-by-side comparison to their own organization and cause.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course, however it is designed for persons and organizations that want to create change in the respective communities.
Participants will receive readings and videos prior to the start of the course.
Course Learning Objectives
Participants will leave with concrete skills in the areas of community organizing, advocacy, policy influence, and leadership development.
Format: Interactive workshops, lectures, simulations, group projects, reflective journaling, skills practice
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
Understand core principles of community organizing and movement-building.
Develop and implement advocacy strategies for local, state, and national policy change.
Build leadership skills grounded in equity, accountability, and collective action.
Use effective campaign planning tools
Strengthen communication, negotiation, and coalition-building skills.
Evaluate campaigns and leadership practices for long-term sustainability.
