Organ Recital - Toby Wright

Organist Toby Wright (Hungerford) will be giving a recital on our church organ, with music ranging across many centuries from Bach to John Williams. Toby regularly posts on Facebook and Instagram and has played many of the finest organs across the UK, He visited St Mary’s and briefly played the organ during one of our Strawberry Tea events. His recital will mark the launch of an appeal to start raising money to restore the organ for future generations.
Light refreshments will be served, and there will be a chance to talk to Toby after the recital. He will also talk about the music he will be playing.
The organ at St Mary’s was built by Sweetland of Bath in 1902, and is thought to be one of his last instruments. It is unusual that other than general restoration, it is as it was left in 1902. We are looking to restore the organ with the aim of keeping its lovely tonal qualities, and to give it a once in a generation clean, and make sure that it is in good working order for many years to come.
