About this Event
Learn about Brazilian Carnival with a lecture and slide presentation explaining the Nile Valley, Kemitic (Egyptian) origins that started from the Opet Festival in a city called Thebes (Luxor). The discussion will focus on the musical instruments that were played, the dancers who perform, and the statues used during the procession or parade that was carried down the avenue of Amun Ra. Then we will discuss and compare the ancient festival to the present-day carnival held at the Sambadrome Marques de Sapucai in Rio de Janeiro Copacabana with a focus on the Samba dance style. Then you can experience an immersive virtual reality viewing the 2026 carnival at the famed Sambadrome Marques de Sapucai in Rio de Janeiro Copacabana using the Oculus headset.
