Operation Rising Spirits: Card Writing Event

Operation Rising Spirits returns for its 4th year, bringing Forest Park together to write holiday cards for Illinois veterans.
About this Event

Get into the holiday spirit while doing a little good! On December 3, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., everyone is invited to the Howard Mohr Community Center for Operation Rising Spirits, a festive evening of card writing, community, pizza, and holiday cheer.

We’ll be writing holiday cards filled with gratitude, encouragement, and warm wishes for veterans. This year, the cards will be extra special: for the first time, they will feature artwork created by Forest Park artists, bringing a little piece of our community to every card.

Operation Rising Spirits is a community effort led by the Historical Society of Forest Park, Forest Park Arts Alliance, and Commissioner Michelle Melin-Rogovin.

Bring the whole family, grab some pizza and a soft drink, and spend an evening spreading a little holiday kindness. All ages are welcome, and no artistic skills or writing experience are needed. Just bring yourself and a willingness to make a veteran’s holiday a little brighter.

Every card is a small gesture that lets a veteran know they are remembered, appreciated, and not forgotten this holiday season.

All supplies are provided.
