About this Event
The Institute of Advanced Wandering is back for another mission Operation Orchard Audit. Set within the boundaries of Holmebrook Valley Park, this is not a mere stroll; it is a park-wide logic puzzle that requires sharp minds and steady feet. This time, the Institute needs your help to uncover the truth behind Katy's locally 'world-famous' Chesterfield Apple Tart recipe. Was it stolen? Sold? Lost? Or something altogether more ludicrous?
Since we are in our Phase 2 of Beta testing, team entry has been subsidised to £20 per entire unit (team).
As a participant, your mission is to navigate the landscape, interface with our custom web-app to find hidden data points, to take home the win or simply enjoy the stories you uncover. Expect logic gaps, immersive storytelling, and a level of wandering you’ve never experienced before.

The Mission Parameters

This is a mixed-reality experience that blends physical exploration with narratives and a parkwide logic puzzle. Whether you are a high-efficiency operative or a casual wanderer, the Institute has a place for you.
-Complex Narrative Threads: Access the "Integration Portal" to uncover the fragmented history of the region. From the disgruntled builder Jack Austin to the enigmatic "Rowan the Stranger," you will interface with dozens of witnesses to piece together the truth behind the what truly happened to Katy’s locally ‘world-famous’ Apple recipe.
-The Physical Interface: Each team is issued high-quality tactical assets, including a bespoke fabric map and physical clue sheets. These are yours to keep once the mission is complete.
-A Living Economy: As you scan checkpoints, your "Handheld Logic Device" (smartphone) will collect digital resources. Mid-mission, the Market and Forge protocols go live, allowing you to trade materials with other units or craft them into high-value items.
-Choose Your Own Adventure and Velocity:
The Stewardship Path: Ideal for operatives who prefer out-smarting rivals through sharp logic and live negotiation over a quiet walk. Scout for rare materials, out manoeuvre rival units in the open market, and forge prestigious and high value Masterpieces. Success is measured in Points; friendships are secondary and subject to market volatility.
The Lore Hunter Path: If you prefer a tranquil morning, simply enjoy the walk, scan at your leisure, and absorb the stories. Conduct a quiet, clinical audit of 700-year-old high quality tea spilling. Navigate at your own pace with zero risk of market induced friendship volatility. The Institute values data, but we don't take life too seriously—a slow stroll is a perfectly valid calibration.

Info: Report to the medieval themed market stall for registration. Receive your clue sheet, custom fabric map and set up your logic device (smartphone).

The Journey Phase
Info: Deployment across Holmebrook Valley Park. Move independently through the park.
Using the app to scan checkpoints and unlocked resident stories. Each scan provided a
fragment of a larger town mystery (e.g., did Katys Tart recipe get stolen?) and awards points and specific raw materials like Tallow and Malt Barley.

The Market & Forge Phase
Info: The in-game market and forge is unlocked, return to basecamp and use the digital interface to barter with other teams for missing materials, and synthesize raw materials into high value goods (e.g., turning Lead Pigs and Woad Pigment into a Pewter Chalice)

Mission End: Final Data Transmission & Scoreboard Lock
Info: The event concludes at the Institute Buyback where you liquidate your remaining inventory for points. The final scoring is revealed, with additional digital awards available (such as the Team who travelled the furthest)
