About this Event
The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington hosts the presentation of "Opera and the Built Environment" by Professor Laura Vasilyeva (Johns Hopkins University).
In conversation with Professor Anthony R. DelDonna (Georgetown University), Professor Vasilyeva explores the global proliferation of the classic Italian opera house design — the teatro all'italiana — and examines how its core architectural features became deliberately standardized during the nineteenth century.
From interior design to structural parameters, the discussion reveals the diverse considerations that drove this standardization and situates Italian opera within a broader global context.
The presentation will be held in English.
In collaboration with: Georgetown University Department of Italian Studies; Georgetown University Humanities Initiative.

Please note: Doors close at event start- time. Arriving late to an event can be disruptive to both the audience and the overall experience. When someone enters after the event has started, it can disturb others by blocking their view or causing noise as they settle in. This not only takes away from the enjoyment of the event for others but can also distract from the atmosphere it is trying to create. We kindly encourage everyone to arrive on time, so everyone can enjoy the full experience without interruptions. Your cooperation helps ensure that everyone has a great time from start to finish.
