The hand-embroidered pages of Marginalia re-interpret the scribbled reminders, to-do-lists, and doodles of the artist’s daily work diaries.
These everyday scrawls and scratchings are detached from their original contexts and meanings through considered mark-making. The works themselves take form in the days’ edges: after the 9-5 work, once the housework has been done, when dinner’s over and the dishes washed.
Choosing to embroider by hand is a deliberate act of time-taking and the act of laying down stitch upon stitch is integral to each work in Marginalia. Although appearing to record specific moments, they are more akin to depictions of time passing in a contemplative process.
